LOVED this book!!!

Receive Me Falling Erika Robuck

Receive Me Falling Erika Robuck

This wonderful romantic comedy featuring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard and adapted from a novella by Truman Capote is as complex as it is touching. As we meet Holly Golightly (Hepburn), she appears to be a quirky girl of modest means who yearns to lives the jet set lifestyle. She window shops at Tiffany's and throws wild parties in her apartment. Her chief source of income comes from weekly visits to a Mafia don in prison, relaying "weather reports" to his lawyer on the outside. She seems to be the picture of superficiality, described by O.J. Berman (Martin Balsam) as a "real phony", a person who is not what she appears to be, but is convinced she is.

Paul Varjak is an apathetic writer with one book and no ideas. He moves in upstairs from Holly and they immediately strike up a fire escape friendship. His only source of income comes from being a gigolo to his wealthy interior decorator (Patricia Neal) who pays him handsomely for his services every chance she gets. Paul and Holly seem to be two of a kind, abject losers pretending to be what they are not.

However, as the story unfolds, the layers are peeled away and the motivation for Holly's go-lightly personality is revealed in her difficult past. She is far more complex and deep than we first believe, using her lifestyle as a defense mechanism, a way of running from herself. The friendship and love that grow between Paul and Holly make better people of each and ultimately help them to transcend their personal flaws, but not without great difficulties.

For director Blake Edwards, who became most renowned for a spate of Pink Panther movies, this film was probably among his finest moments. These were complicated characters and he revealed them slowly with nuance. They were also developing as people and his treatment of this effect was both subtle and powerful.

The film was not without controversy. Truman Capote was adamant about having Marilyn Monroe in the lead, but the studio went with Audrey Hepburn, who was far less popular but who was probably better for the complexities of the character. They had selected a very young John Frankenheimer as director, who at that point had only TV credits on his resume. Hepburn refused to work with him and he was dumped in favor of Edwards. Capote wanted the film to remain true to the book's dark and depressing ending, but the studio chose to play to the masses and end it on an upbeat. Personally, I'm glad they did.

The film has been roundly criticized in the present day for the character portrayed by Mickey Rooney. Rooney played a caricature of a bumbling Japanese neighbor that was extremely unflattering to Asians although admittedly it was hilarious. This is considered a shocking portrayal in today's politically correct society, but it stirred little furor at the time, when everyone was far more insensitive and far less oversensitive. When the film was released, the biggest criticism was that Edwards overused the character to the point of making him nauseating, which was an obvious error in judgment. If Rooney only had one or two scenes rather than roughly a dozen, it probably wouldn't have become such a lightening rod.

Hepburn and Peppard were both terrific in the leads. Hepburn, who was nominated for best actress for the role, gave Holly a lovable quirkiness that belied her deeper troubles. When it was time to broaden the character, Hepburn gave her intricacy and depth that I feel Marilyn Monroe never could have accomplished. Peppard was more than just a dashing and handsome foil for Hepburn. He played Paul with sensitivity and refinement and had incredible chemistry with Hepburn, making the romance very natural and believable.

One of the best things about the film was the soundtrack, which brought the film its only two Oscars from five nominations. Henry Mancini's musical score was marvelous and film's theme song, "Moon River" written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer is an enduring classic.

The DVD version brings new life to the original Technicolor photography and brings fullness to Mancini's fabulous soundtrack.

This richly textured film has both depth and range. It has just the right balance of lightness and heaviness, with well-explored characters that change before our eyes. I rated it a 10/10. It is an intelligent and affecting film that is worth seeing.

Barbara Cartlands Etiquette love romance

Barbara Cartlands Etiquette love romance

I am a girly girl who happens to abhor rom-coms and chick flicks. As such, I'd thought this was another chick flick. I refused to shell out the bucks and see this in the theater. Waited til today. Was surprised to find a smart, sharp, beautifully performed, realistic yet entertaining composite portrait of what we all go through. Five Star film. Acting shout-outs in particular to the JenBen couple and Ginnifer Goodwin and Justin Long. Jennifer Connelly, even in a film that may not perhaps be Oscar material, shows us that no matter what she does, she herself is Oscar material every moment she inhabits a frame. I felt her pain, especially (spoiler hint alert) how she focused on the ciggies. Been there. We really do that. The writing and situations are so realistic we have all been there. Should be required viewing for every adult. Highly recommended. One sorry note: The DVD itself, which was just released today, has almost nothing in the way of extras with the exception of a few deleted scenes.

Little Black Cocktail Dress Crystals

Little Black Cocktail Dress Crystals

To be honest, my goal wasn`t to buy the book to learn how to get the guy, my goal was pure curiosity.
I have never had a problem how to get the guy etc. I just haven`t met the one.
For a long time now, I haven`t even tried to find him, because I have so much more in my life right now, what is more important to me. My idea was, that when i am ready, then i will try to find him or if by change it happens before, then ok.
It was only when I realized how wrong I was. So let me tell you what changed my mind.

Yesterday I got the book Get the Guy, and I decided to go home after work to start to read it. Before I finished my work, I got a call from my friend, who asked me to go to the cinema and after the movie out with him and his friends. Because I felt tired and wanted to relax and read the book, I said to him maybe next time.
So when I went home, I started to read...after a 30 pages, I got so inspired with the book that I called to my friend and asked, can I still join them for the cinema etc. To my luck, the answer was yes.
So I went out, took all the knowledge and the advices with me and do you know what...
I had the BEST TIME EVER :D
At that night i met 12 guys and from 12 guys 11 was awesome. They where nice, sweet, polite, funny and a lot more...everything what you can imagine to wish for. i felt like I am a princess, who is the most beautiful, precious woman they have ever met. Even today, I am so surprised , that in one night I met more good guys than I have met in 8 years.
NB: I even met a girl, who said to me, that if she would be lesbian she would definitely date me :D .
Now I know, that even the little changes in your life, can change more than you can imagine! I can`t wait what will happen when I am finished reading the book.

NB: going out that night, my goal wasn`t to find a perfect/ good guy. My goal was to communicate with people and to be the same person who i am: fun, life loving independent high-value woman. The difference was, that even though I was the same, I now had the knowledge how people see me, when I act some way. Also, I had in my head a sentence that haunt me all night...it was... Never settle for less than you are worth! To me, this sentence accompanied me with all the people I met that night: young, old, guys, girls etc.
And i know, because of all this, people treated me the way I really deserve to be treated.

So all to you, who are still thinking, to buy or not to by this book, I have only one thing to say. No matter who you are, no matter where you are going in your life...in some point, you will need somebody to stand by you and help you. Don`t waist another second of your life, to be in the same spot, doing the same mistakes and never meeting the good guys or even good people. They are all around. So close, you just have to reach out and they are there.
Trust me, I thought that there are only few % of good guys out there, and the change for me meeting them, are almost 0...and now, I can tell you, that there are more good guys out there, than you can ever imagine.
SO i hope you get the change to read this book, and find out how to attract the good guys, how to change your life etc.
Al thought i haven`t figured out everything yet, I have found my way.

Thank you soooo much Matthew Hussey for writing the book and being there for us!

I have to admit. I've been somewhat leery of Mika and many hosts at MSNBC because I know they're partisan. They're like the Fox News version of liberals. However, I have to give Mika and her handlers a lot of credit because this book surprised me in a positive way and convinced me that she's no shrill partisan at all! When someone from Fox News writes a book that can make me say that, I'll be surprised, too, but I'm not holding my breath, miha. LOL.

I thought that Mika was just another one of those blond leg-crossers on cable news without much substance, but this book is highly intelligent, thoughtful and emotionally moving. I never thought that a 50-something, "attractive" woman like her could have issues against food and obesity that she fights each and every day like the stilettoed warrior she is, miha. Oh, you go, girl.
I totally agree that she is one brave pepita for waging the War Against Obesity, which is better than the phony War on Terror or the made-up War on Drugs that conservatives make up. After all, decades of liberal spending programs have taught us all that you can change people's behavior through increased regulations and by simply throwing more and more money at the problem. All experts agree on this, and if you don't, then you must be from the South.

In the pages of this extremely brave book that makes Sex and the Single Girl look like a passage from the Bible (fairytale book), Mika offers her central-government solutions for ridding every American of obesity once and for all. I'm totally behind her on this because I believe that the government has a right to impose its will on Americans for the sake of collectivism. After all, with Obama in power now, look how everything is running smoothly with full employment, no debt, no terrorism and no problems at all to speak of in his earthly paradise. And it's all due to collectivism, baby. Yeah, baby!

I'm impressed with how logical Mika is, especially when liberals get an unfair rap from haters like Michael Savage, who weirdly say they're mentally ill. I disagree. For example, Mika makes a great case in arguing that obese kids should be taken away from their abusive parents, which is the epitome of well-reasoned thinking to me, ese! She also is in favor of establishing a National Obesity Database that will keep tabs on every overweight American for years to come. Again, I believe in the power of the federal government (bigger is better, yo!) for American awesomeness in the years to come. Yeah, baby!

In short, don't let me bore you with my completely accurate description of Mika's plans for your little children who may or may not be obese. Purchase this book from Amazon immediately to read all the genius, Einstein-like ideas floating around in that blonde-dyed head of hers. Mika isn't just a beautiful creature (rowr!). She's also a highly intelligent leg-crosser on cable news who is almost as smart as Nancy Drew. Yeah, baby.
