Order SEVERAL SIZES too big for it to fit!

PacificPlex Paisley Goddess Dress

PacificPlex Paisley Goddess Dress

I was totally hesitant at first to order it considering the reviews about odd fits even though it says its junior sizes and a size chart provided. But I gave in and ordered it and boy am I glad I did. The dress is way cute and perfect for casual wear and can be accessorized for a more formal event. I normally wear L/XL 12/14 but went for it and ordered it 3 sizes bigger in 4x. Once I got it I tried it on right away. Unfortunately, it didnt fit my bust correctly, it was a bit snug. The waist fit fine but just a tad roomy. So I returned it and ordered it in 5X. It fits my bust perfectly! 36DD! I have to pin the waist a bit but I can wear a bra under the dress without it showing at the sides. Like a previous review said, the material is not breathable and it will get warm. The dress falls to just below my knees like maybe an inch or two.

30 day WAKEUP guide

The Frisky 30 Day Breakup Guide

The Frisky 30 Day Breakup Guide

The book does a great job of breaking down the seemingly small day-to-day tasks and more obvious steps you should take to move on after a break-up, yet do not for fear of shutting out the past. Memories should stay in the past, and can be remembered fondly at the appropriate time, but holding onto them too closely won't do any good for the recovery process. Knowing what to do to get beyond those memories and actually doing it is far easier said than done. As Jamie says, hindsight is always 20/20. It ends up being the small tasks and accomplishments that get you back on your feet and back into your own personal routine. In the long run, being independent will be a huge help for stability in the next relationship, and she covers some great steps to get there rather than serial dating to get back at your ex or trying to rekindle an unhealthy relationship. Overall it's a great checklist of things that you won't think of until the fog has lifted.

I thought the book was hysterical, and a quick light read. I've passed my copy on to a friend in need and imagine I'll be gifting it as need be since laughter is the best medicine of all and a great first step.

Adventure/Romance

Wizards First Rule Sword Truth

Wizards First Rule Sword Truth

Despite what others say about this book and the series that follow it, Goodkind does an amazing job of storytelling. There is a saying, "there is nothing new under the sun," and this holds true in writing fantasy as well.

There are only so many ways you can tell the story of one destined to discover himself and overcome evil. What sets books apart are the authors and their delivery of the story. In this book and the Sword of Truth series Goodkind writes in a style that doesn't drag the story down with too much detail (something Stephen King is bad about, and in the world of fantasy, something I couldn't get past in George R. R. Martin's first book) but he doesn't leave so much detail out that you dont have a connection with the book.

Throughout this entire series Goodkind makes a connection between the reader and the characters. I've tried reading all sorts of books only to find myself put off by complicated names of an author trying to hard to distance their book from reality, too much detail that bores me and drags the story down, and the like. George R.R. Martin is the latest offender in this. Granted it may be a great book and series but I cant get past the story jumping around every chapter and following different lines.

With all of that said, Terry Goodkind's works are the only books I've ever been so involved in that I go to bed much later than I should reading them, only to find myself waking up an hour or two earlier than I normally do just to get more reading in before school or work. Maybe this book doesn't appeal to older people, but I started reading this series when I was 16 years old in high school, and now I'm out of college and intensely in the middle of Chainfire, Goodkind's latest book in the series.

The ONLY thing that seems repetative about any of Goodkind's books is the constant folly that Richard faces through the series, but Goodkind pulls it off. Maybe those who think Goodkind is being preachy in his works have no morals or are of such a simplistic mindset that they cant entertain and appreciate thoughts and beliefs that dont parallel their own, but if you're an educated and open minded person who likes a great story that is a bit more "real world" with a twist of classic fantasy (magic and the like) then Goodkind's series should be right up your ally. Do yourself a favor and pick up Wizard's First Rule.

The Centennial Collection of Breakfast at Tiffany's" is the definitive version to own on DVD!

Breakfast Tiffanys George Peppard Hepburn

Breakfast Tiffanys George Peppard Hepburn

This wonderful romantic comedy featuring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard and adapted from a novella by Truman Capote is as complex as it is touching. As we meet Holly Golightly (Hepburn), she appears to be a quirky girl of modest means who yearns to lives the jet set lifestyle. She window shops at Tiffany's and throws wild parties in her apartment. Her chief source of income comes from weekly visits to a Mafia don in prison, relaying "weather reports" to his lawyer on the outside. She seems to be the picture of superficiality, described by O.J. Berman (Martin Balsam) as a "real phony", a person who is not what she appears to be, but is convinced she is.

Paul Varjak is an apathetic writer with one book and no ideas. He moves in upstairs from Holly and they immediately strike up a fire escape friendship. His only source of income comes from being a gigolo to his wealthy interior decorator (Patricia Neal) who pays him handsomely for his services every chance she gets. Paul and Holly seem to be two of a kind, abject losers pretending to be what they are not.

However, as the story unfolds, the layers are peeled away and the motivation for Holly's go-lightly personality is revealed in her difficult past. She is far more complex and deep than we first believe, using her lifestyle as a defense mechanism, a way of running from herself. The friendship and love that grow between Paul and Holly make better people of each and ultimately help them to transcend their personal flaws, but not without great difficulties.

For director Blake Edwards, who became most renowned for a spate of Pink Panther movies, this film was probably among his finest moments. These were complicated characters and he revealed them slowly with nuance. They were also developing as people and his treatment of this effect was both subtle and powerful.

The film was not without controversy. Truman Capote was adamant about having Marilyn Monroe in the lead, but the studio went with Audrey Hepburn, who was far less popular but who was probably better for the complexities of the character. They had selected a very young John Frankenheimer as director, who at that point had only TV credits on his resume. Hepburn refused to work with him and he was dumped in favor of Edwards. Capote wanted the film to remain true to the book's dark and depressing ending, but the studio chose to play to the masses and end it on an upbeat. Personally, I'm glad they did.

The film has been roundly criticized in the present day for the character portrayed by Mickey Rooney. Rooney played a caricature of a bumbling Japanese neighbor that was extremely unflattering to Asians although admittedly it was hilarious. This is considered a shocking portrayal in today's politically correct society, but it stirred little furor at the time, when everyone was far more insensitive and far less oversensitive. When the film was released, the biggest criticism was that Edwards overused the character to the point of making him nauseating, which was an obvious error in judgment. If Rooney only had one or two scenes rather than roughly a dozen, it probably wouldn't have become such a lightening rod.

Hepburn and Peppard were both terrific in the leads. Hepburn, who was nominated for best actress for the role, gave Holly a lovable quirkiness that belied her deeper troubles. When it was time to broaden the character, Hepburn gave her intricacy and depth that I feel Marilyn Monroe never could have accomplished. Peppard was more than just a dashing and handsome foil for Hepburn. He played Paul with sensitivity and refinement and had incredible chemistry with Hepburn, making the romance very natural and believable.

One of the best things about the film was the soundtrack, which brought the film its only two Oscars from five nominations. Henry Mancini's musical score was marvelous and film's theme song, "Moon River" written by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer is an enduring classic.

The DVD version brings new life to the original Technicolor photography and brings fullness to Mancini's fabulous soundtrack.

This richly textured film has both depth and range. It has just the right balance of lightness and heaviness, with well-explored characters that change before our eyes. I rated it a 10/10. It is an intelligent and affecting film that is worth seeing.

Holly Golightly: "We're alike, me and cat. A couple of poor nameless slobs."

Breakfast At Tiffanys Audrey Hepburn

Breakfast At Tiffanys Audrey Hepburn

BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S won Hank Mancini a pair of music Oscars. Audrey Hepburn also was nominated for Best Actress.

There's many legends (some verifiable) surrounding this classic drama:
1.) Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe to play call girl Holly, but she thought the role would be bad for her image.
2.) Jean Seberg and Kim Novak were considered for Holly before the film's producers decided on Miss Hepburn.
3.) Steve McQueen was offered George Peppard's part but was unavailable.
4.) The film doesn't follow Truman Copote's story.
5.) It DOES follow his story.
6.) 19-year-old Holly likes herb, has a dirty mouth, once terminated a pregnancy and dates both men and women.
7.) Her brother Fred also isn't "straight."

And so on.

Sight aione verifies the obvious:
Hepburn's rare beauty is ideally enhanced by an exquisitely accessorized black sheath dress. Mr. Peppard is equally as pulchritudinous and they make a gorgeous couple. Their bittersweet rainy alleyway scene at story's end is one of the most emotional moments in cinematic history.

Mickey Rooney is highly annoying (and incredibly un-P.C.) in his comic relief role as a mule-toothed, Coke bottle eyeglass-wearing Oriental. Buddy Ebsen defines acting perfection as Holly's abandoned husband, come from the country to NYC to bring his "Lullamae" home.

Blake Edwards' early masterpiece is a complex tale of a mercurial young lady who freely accepts cash gifts from men, is most at ease in overcrowded, swinging cocktail parties, and at her neurotic worst when alone with the one man she's attracted to, a handsome young author of a single book who struggles to write anything new. Theirs is a beautiful love story with tragic overtones that's one of this reviewer's all-time favorite movies. Highest recommendation!

Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 imdb viewer poll rating.

Love it and the old Classics

Moon River Andy Williams

Moon River Andy Williams

Film scores (as opposed to "song soundtracks") tend to get a bad rap, and the reasons baffle me a bit. To each his or her own, I suppose, but film scoring is an art unto itself, and I really appreciate the composers who can write one that not only supports the movie, but stands on its own away from the film.

The score for "Bee Movie" does just that. As Mark and Glenn noted, it's a worthy addition to anyone's film score collection, and it's a big feather in Rupert Gregson-Williams' hat.

If you're not into film scores and just want the songs, you can find "Sugar Sugar" at Amazon's MP3 store or iTunes for a buck. And if you want "Here Comes the Sun," do yourself a favor: forget Crow's lackluster cover and get the original. You'll have to buy a CD ("Abbey Road" or "1") but not only will you get a much better performance of the song, you'll get a lot of other great music along with it.

J'ame Audrey Hepburn (and Holly Golightly too!)

Fifth Avenue A M Breakfast Tiffanys

Fifth Avenue A M Breakfast Tiffanys

FIFTH AVENUE, 5 A.M. by Sam Wasson is a breezy and enjoyable read. It is quite a different book than his first, A SPLURCH IN THE KISSER and, in my view, a superior one. Wasson did phenomenal research (fully cited in his detailed notes) and pulls together much that is familiar and much that I don't believe has ever been printed before about BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. The first half concerns Truman Capote and his sources for the novella (both from his own childhood and his friends' lives) and the second half concerns the film's development, production, and release. While the "Dawn of the Modern Woman" angle is present throughout, it is not over-emphasized as it is in the media promotion of the book. This is a fairly straightforward factual novel with real life characters given dialogue that usually is drawn from their own recollections or others. There is a fair amount of gossip, but it is never salacious. The author's access to Paramount's production files and his conversations with participants or their spouses turns up a few gems that would otherwise have remained obscure. His diligence points to a dedication that was lacking in SPLURCH. I highly recommend it.

Strange staging, brilliant performanca!!

Verdi La Traviata Anna Netrebko

Verdi La Traviata Anna Netrebko

When this DVD was released last summer I was reluctant to buy it because I have heard about the "unusual" staging, but finally I decided to go for it. And I am glad I did!
Right from the beginning I was taken in and never let go.
Netrebko and Villazon were amazing. Some of the other reviewers have said that Villazon was over the top, and Netrebko's singing was flawed, yes, they are not the best singers I have heard or seen, but I don't recall other Alfredo and Violetta team that create such excitement, and I have been going to the opera for almost fifty years!!

You could feel the wild passion of young lovers in the earlier scenes and their despair of knowing that all is lost in the last act.
In the last act after Annina announces that Alfredo have returned and Violetta and Alfredo run into each other's arms I broke into tears and I think that I cried all the way to the end.
These two people just with their voices and their acting did not need any staging!
I did not care for Hampson's Giorgio Germont, but then I am not a great fan of his, anyhow.
This a DVD that I am sure that I will watch many times in spite of the "unusual" staging.

The Rules According JWOWW Shore Tested

Jenni Jwoww, Has once again surprised me. She seems so self confident on the show and has a persona of noone can break me and I am a hardcore person. Now as I read the book it shows that Jenni is a normal human girl growing up in her 20s in New york. The only difference between her and ourselves is she is a star now thanks to Jersey Shore. I can totally relate to her book as she writes it. I personally don't recommend the book for teenagers under 18. I went to her book signing and in front of me was a 7 year old dying to read her book. Sorry sweetie its not a book for you. I understand you want to see and meet her which is fine. But reading her book is not something for you. I believe Jwoww came about this book to help us become better woman and see most of our mistakes. We are no mans doormat. She helped me see some faults I have made and guess what she has made them too. So it shows that she is a HUMAN BEING and makes mistakes as well. Which will show all the people who think she lives an easy life and while most men would die to date her she will not just date anyone. She has her rules and if we take her advice and remember her words of wisdom we will end up with someone like Roger. Thank you Jwoww for a well written book. She does state in her book if your not 21 Don't drink, she doesn't say you have to smush. She is just explaining her point of view and makes it clear that she doesn't want you to end up in an unhealthy relationship, she is sharing her life experiences with us, she is speaking to all of us as friends its a different level its sincerely a reminder that we aren't alone. Its the things she did to help herself land Mr Right and if you read it and then keep in mind the things she say you may land Mister right =)

Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy

Mrs The Face Fashion Democracy

Mrs The Face Fashion Democracy

For all you sceptics who think this book is nothing more than glossy photographs, think again. This book has got to be one of the best I have ever come across in a long time and let me tell you why.

It is jam packed with photographs of the first lady not just in her public role but some dating back to her early days. The close ups on her jewellry, brooches, shoes and swatches are amazing. You get to REALLY scrutinise how classy this woman really is. Pages upon pages (it's a big book) of really beautiful pictures and lots of interviews with her favourite designers - Pinto, Mirzahi, Rodrigues, Sorenson, Kors, Ikram as well as all the jewellers. There is a lot to read - it is a book not a hardback magazine.

It also shows how Michelle will go down in history as THE most fashionable first lady ever. She mixes high end with low end, throws on belts and brooches and makes it her own. She recycles her items and makes completely different outfits every time AND her ability to really work colours is truly amazing. I'm out of breath.

More importantly, the first lady and the author shows that you don't need money to look good. Fashion can be classy as well as cheap and affordable. Fashion is not about someone having the ability to wear Valentino gowns or Gucci or Prada. Fashion should be relateable and many women will be able to relate to Michelle Obama and how she makes clothes WORK for her.

The author has done me a great favour, I have ordered another three copies as Christmas presents for my friends. Fantastic piece of work.

"4" is a more mature album but yet has enough songs that she can make videos and appear on 106 and Park with the kiddies to pacify them. The writing is superb and there is great production put in place.

"I AM...SASHA FIERCE" was not a good album to me; though I thought "Dangerously In Love" was awesome, and was a big fan of "B'Day" but again "I AM...SASHA FIERCE" only had about less than a albums worth of good music.

My faves on "4" are:

Miss You- ohhhh this song can just rock you to sleep its so smooth.

Best Thing I never had- It really makes me think about the frogs I had to deal with to get my prince, I have seen the video and it makes perfect sense.

Party- Andre 3000 and Beyonce' on the same song with good production from Mr. Kanye West (he's not an artist I like) but he is a more than decent producer. I mean even the people on Columbia had to know how special this song was; she submitted over 70 songs and they picked this and Andre 3000 is the ONLY featured artist on the entire album...

Rather Die Young- OMG ladies this woman LOVES her some Jay-Z! LOL! It's okay because you are supposed to love your husband; so I truly understand her words and feelings in this song.

Love on Top- This sounds like something a Young Michael would have sang with the Jackson 5; very upbeat but a really great song!

Countdown- Just listen there is nothing not to like about this song! NOTHING!

People just buy the album; you will NOT be disappointed! I love how people dismissed the whole album as a flop before it was even released because they didn't like ONE single! I personally didn't like it either; I thought it was too easy but this appears to be the bait for the younger people to buy the albums ie: Single Ladies for her previous album and the other meat and potatoes on the actual album. I think she has at least 6 or 7 singles on this album and I look forward to hearing each and every one!

I would personally love to hear the other 60 or so songs that she made for this album that did not get selected to be on the album; I am sure they are good as well!

Fashion Forms Womens Ultralite Nubra

I was VERY pleased with this order. I bought this to go with a shirt I bought from amazon that show enough back to worry about your bra showing. This shrapless bra worked wonders. I have never owned one before, and was a little worried at first, but I would now recomend this to anyone.

The stickyness is slighty odd at fist, but adjusted to with ease.
Removal is not painful
They stayed in place perfectly, and never feared they were pealing off.
They see to fit better than some of my regular bras.
material is soft, light, and comfortable.
I recomend standing in frount of a mirror in order to set evenly
I had no problems with the cleaning and drying process. I just let them sit over night.
My order arrived shortly after my shirt even though I bought the shirt almost a week before.

Quite an interesting, yet...exceptionally torrid view of the female version of the life presented by the AMC series "Mad Men". Being an avid "Mad Men" fan, this book held a great deal of interest for me. I must say, it more than fulfilled my expectations. Perpetual extra-marital and otherwise sex, pimping, wild office romps, "nooners", this book has it all.

On a more serious note, this book is an invaluable tool for understanding the difficulties of working women at the time. The blatant sexism, the difficulties that women had to overcome to achieve in what war really a man's world are vividly expressed. Quite a few chapters are devoted to the age-old problems facing working women who wish to maintain a career, be a good mother and also a good partner. Nothing ever seems to change in that regard. The women of the 60's faced an even higher degree of difficulty than women today. But, the emotional grind and the difficulties of trying to "do it all" , with its accompanying perpetual feeling of guilt are beautifully expressed. It was never easy to be a working women and it seems that nothing much has changed in that area. Let us hope that our daughters are better able to experience and enjoy their careers and their family life.

Having wondered about the female viewpoint of life at a 60's ad agency, this book answered many questions. Far from seeming oppressed and used, many of the women interviewed seemed to cynically recognize the best way to succeed on Mad. Ave. and were every bit the swingers that the males were. Reading of all of the wild activities, enabled and promoted by the newly-released "Pill", was a mind-boggling experience. Even so, as a woman, I was glad to be a product of the 70's. How any work was ever performed at these ad agencies is beyond my grasp. Not being judgmental,I just simply would not have had the energy required. A wild, well-written, educational, and fast read. Read it, you will have no regrets.

Amazing dress, great fit!

Jessica Howard Womens V Neck Textured

Jessica Howard Womens V Neck Textured

I searched everywhere for weeks to find this dress in a Women's size when the largest Missy size I found in a retail store was a bit too tight. When I finally found it on Amazon I was so excited but somewhat nervous that it wouldn't have the same slimming fit in Women's sizing. I was thrilled to try it on and found it had all of the beautiful features I loved in the Missy size (slimming empire-effect waistband seaming, arm-friendly 3/4-length sleeves, close-fitting skirt, and visually interesting tectured fabric). So often Women's dresses hang like shapeless gunny sacks that make the wearer look matronly and fat. This dress does just the opposite. It has a youthful, just-right close cut and accentuates the best features of my curvy figure like a full bust while hiding things I'd rather minimize like my post-babies waistline and ample hips.

I purchased this dress to wear to a cocktail party/fundraising event and got compliments all night. I just packed it again for formal night on an upcoming cruise vacation. Although the description describes the fabric as a knit, it is not a t-shirt or ponte knit. It is more like a semi-sturdy polyester that has built-in texture. It is heavy enough to not cling or show every lump and bump but still drapes beautifully. And it does not have that granny-polyester type of look either. This makes it a suitable fabric for very dressy occasions like weddings and not-so-dressy occasions like cocktails or dinner when you want to be the beautiful lady in red. If you have the chance to try this dress, do not hesitate!

Elegance for a lifetime

Guide Elegance Properly Dressed Occasions

Guide Elegance Properly Dressed Occasions

As a professional designer I am always looking for gifts and books to recommend to my clients. This book is one of my favorites for its sense of wit and surprisingly accurate information. I have lived in London, Paris and Los Angeles and can promise that elegant women have changed very little over the past 40 years. There is definitely more diversity permitted, but elegance as a reflection of charm, refinement and economy have not changed much at all. Elegant women are neither showy, nor trendy, nor cheap. An elegant woman would not frivolously waste money at fast fashion retailers such as Forever 21 nor would they be caught dead dressed inappropriately for the situation. In our current culture of self absorbed me me me, it is nice to reflect on a time when giving care to ones appearance was a way of giving to others, helping others to be at ease and projecting the sense that you have assigned a certain amount of importance to being with them. Although the truly elegant woman is a vanishing bird, use this guide to assure it's recovery. There is no greater experience than to be in the presence of a woman whose appearance provides a subtle backdrop to her sparkling and charismatic personality. When you needn't worry about your appearance, you are free to express your personality and charms without worry.

A Devastating Parody of Right-Wing Extremism

Angry White Male Horse Rode

Angry White Male Horse Rode

No matter what your ethnic background, we all as Americans have an obligation to our country. This obligation may lead you to become a doctor, teacher, or even a solider. To have this love and loyalty, you must have a sense of history. This book shows how we have lost touch with our history in the last fifty years.
It shows how we have lost sight of our moral responsibilities. There are many history books on the market but most do not connect history with real life events. Mr. Biesada shows history in a different light, in a way that everyone can understand and relate to. His unique writing style is very confortable and modern. The book in written to be straight forward but it is also very humorous. He helps you look at life throught his point of view. From love to politics he explains and examines our society. I have bought all my family members this book for Christmas and I would love to see it in our public schools.

In 1953 Joan Crawford returned to her old studio MGM after a 10 year absence. When "Sudden Fear", Joan's 1952 independent film, was a huge box office and commercial success (the movie garnered Crawford her third and final Oscar nomination as Best Actress) MGM offered her a two-picture deal. The first movie was "Torch Song", a film about a hard-as-nails Broadway star who falls in love with her new pianist who is blind. The pianist was played by Michael Wilding who at the time was dating Elizabeth Taylor with whom Crawford was having a real-life feud with. Joan, at one point, even banned Liz from the MGM sound stages during filming! Rumor had it that Joan was envious and jealous of Taylor's success as an up and coming movie actress and wanted nothing to do with her.

"Torch Song", however, bombed at the box office, and immediately MGM, again, parted ways with Joan and her second feature was scrapped.

The film is not terrible, but it is not Oscar worthy either although Marjorie Rambeau, who played Joan's mother in the film, received a Best Supporting Actress nom . The script is pretty decent and the performances are good, but the thing just didn't jell. I always felt Joan was too tough in the role, an attribute she would bring to most of her 1950's films. Perhaps if Crawford had softened her character's portrayal audiences would have responded more nicely.

Joan actually loved doing "Torch Song". She stated, "It was absolutely a field day for an actress, especially one that had reached a certain age. I was able to act, dance, and pretend to sing (her voice was overdubbed).

The most distubing part of the movie for me is the fact that during filming in the summer of 1953, according to Joan's adopted daughter Christina, Joan had tried to kill her during a violent argument at Joan's Brentwood home. When you watch "Torch Song" you can see, not only the toughness Joan possessed, but the anger and bitterness she had from real life. Perhaps she was tired of fighting to keep her career alive at this point in her life and perhaps her alcoholism was getting out of hand. Whatever the reason for her convincing portrayal as Jenny Stewart one gets the impression it wasn't at all acting.

"Torch Song" was finally released on DVD a few years back in widescreen on the "Joan Crawford Box Set: Part 2", but never released as an individual stand-alone disc.

Tolstoy was right, I guess....

The End World We Know

The End World We Know

I've had this book for nearly a year and just got around to reading it - in just two extended sittings. This is a memoir that reads like a novel. It grabs you by the shirt on page one and yanks you along to the bitter end - and it really is a bitter one. Goolrick is, it would seem, a very screwed up guy, who does not hesitate to admit. But he earned his screwed-up-ness the hard way, through a sad history of abuse, both subtle and physically horrific. A failed suicide who "cuts himself" and a sad man who has endured unhappy love affairs with both sexes, this guy's story just hurts to read sometimes. But his style is near hypnotic. There is nothing fancy or flowery about it. It is terse, stripped-to-the-bone and to-the-point language. There is not a wasted word. It is a mesmerizing look at what it was like to be a part of the "genteel poor" on the academic cocktail circuit in Virginia in the fifties and sixties. This is a slice of America from those times, but not a very tasty one. Goolrick's story is raw and painful, and I often found myself wincing in horror at what he reported. Unhappy or not, this guy can WRITE! I plan to read his novel soon. - Tim Bazzett, author of Pinhead: A Love Story

Showing the hidden side of life

The Unfinished Work Elizabeth D

The Unfinished Work Elizabeth D

I really loved Nichole Bernier's novel "The Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D."

We begin the novel a year or so after 9-11 and we find out that the main character Kate, is grieving over the loss of her friend Elizabeth. With Elizabeth's unexpected death in a small plane crash and Kate feeling uneasy due to the terrorists attacks you can understand her frayed emotions and panic.

During her family's yearly trek from Washington D.C. to a beach rental she stops by to visit with her friend's widowed husband Dave. There is some tension between both of them due to the fact that we find that Elizabeth has willed Kate all of her diaries and that is the main reason that the family has stopped by to see him. While there Dave makes bitter allegations to Kate that Elizabeth was cheating on him with another man and Kate is blown away by his allegation.

As Kate and her family continue their trip you get to find out more about her and about the longings she still has sometimes to be the person she was before she married her husband and had two children. As we have Kate torn between going back to work as a pastry chef in Washington D.C. we have the story broken up by Kate reading Elizabeth's diary entries and finding out that she really never really knew Elizabeth.

I really did love all of the interwoven plots going on throughout this novel. I think probably the hardest part of the story for Kate was when she got to the entries that dealt with her and Elizabeth's friendship. It has to be hard to read what a person thought of and when they were really asking you for help you didn't realize it.

In the end I thought that Bernier's novel fully explored what it means to be true to yourself and also true to your family. How doing what you know is right for them can in the end hurt who you are inside. Also how even the best of friends keep parts of themselves hidden from each other.

David Tate Womens Gem Flat

David Tate Womens Gem Flat

I loved Haywire, it was a refreshing old school action movie with a simple primal and clean plot (revenge) that relied on awesome fighting scenes and great action rather than the much over used special effects that we see way too much nowadays.

I was REALLY impressed with Gina Carano in this movie not only was this her first real movie, and not only was she in there with a top notch all-star who's who of Hollywood cast where poor acting would have REALLY stood out but she was the star of the movie, who the movie was focused on, and she did an amazing job of carrying this movie. Gina's fight scenes were just awesome!!!!!, her portrayal of a gorgeous badass black opps contractor for hire was totally believable..............I also found myself both liking and rooting for Mallory Kane (Gina's character) and the fighting scenes were so brutally real i found myself cringing and wincing at some of the impacts................Like I said it was hard to believe this was Carano's first real movie, if she doesnt become a "bigtime" action star like the Rock I will be very surprised and very disappointed!!!!

I'm REALLY hoping for a sequel to Haywire it kinda reminded me of the Bourne series movies..........All I can say to anyone who didnt like Haywire, I think either you dont really care for action movies or you saw the big time all star cast and figured there would be a much more complex plot with more dramatic character development and acting rather than the simple very clean plot that I feel worked very well, with the main focus on the amazing fight and action scenes..........on a similar note to anyone who didnt like Gina Carano as Mallory Kane, you have to ask yourself was she believable as a gorgeous badass black opps contractor for hire, did you find yourself liking and/or rooting for Mallory Kane, did you find yourself cringing or wincing during any of the brutally realistic fighting scenes.........if you answered yes to any of these then Gina did a great job............Good actors or actresses inspire strong feelings, they pull you into the movie and make you feel what they are feeling, like or hate or root for them........Poor actors are either miscast and/or not believable in their roles or say or do something annoying or distracting that takes our focus away from the story and character they are trying to portray. The acting and casting in Haywire was top notch.

Right now the Rock is the ONLY real "bigtime" action star we have Stalone, Arnold, VanDam, Seagal, etc......have pretty much passed the baton and are pretty much retired action movie stars, and we've NEVER really had a woman action star............I think just like The Rock, Gina Carano has the charm, charisma, beauty and skills to become a bigtime action star.........I think thats what Soderberg saw in her as well, and I think thats why she was so popular in MMA...........she has that "something special" that will allow her to fill a key niche and make lots of amazing badass movies, she's a total package with amazing fighting skills that translate to the big screen very well, great charisma and charm, and a rare combination of beauty, while still being totally believable as a badass..............I cant think of another action star who was as good in their first movie........she was MUCH better than Arnold, VanDam, Seagall, Rampage Jackson...........and worlds better than Triple H, John Cena etc.........under MUCH more difficult circumstances ( being the STAR of her first movie with an all star who's who of Hollywood cast to measure up to)

Like the Rock I also think Carano could be versatile enough to play other roles than action and be good. she has a lot of charm and charisma and a genuine down to earth sweetness and I think she would be could in romantic comedy type movies and of course super hero movies and dramas...........Not sure if she could be mean enough to play a villain or not though........but I do think she would make an AMAZING Wonder Woman........since Lynda Carter played that role I NEVER thought another actress could match up to her but I take that back today Carano has the beauty, charm, sweetness and amazing smile to play the role plus she brings the badass amazonian comic book presence to the role as well that I cant see ANYONE but her bringing.

In closing I'm hoping to see more Haywire sequels!!!!...........and ALOT more Gina Carano!!!!!

BCBGMAXAZRIA Womens Gathered Jersey Dress

Didn't intend to buy another BCBG dress after having just bought a gorgeous Lipstick Red BCBGMAXAZRIA Women's Gathered Jersey Dress cocktail dress on Amazon which looks great on me. But I was walking by a BCBG outlet store recently that was having an additional 50% off sale on select items, so I wandered in.

I'm an exhaustive shopper. I will pull dozens of items to try on, and maybe find one thing I'll buy. It has to look GREAT on me, not just okay or could-look-good-if... After trying on a number of dresses that didn't work on me, I slipped this one on and WOW, I looked amazing! I wear a size 8 and in this dress, I have a perfect hourglass figure with a deeply indented waist.

I normally don't like animal print, but this one is very tastefully done. The lace trim on the bottom edge adds an extra touch of class. You can't really see it in the pictures, but the ruching is intricate, covers every inch and is extremely flattering. Of course, it wasn't one of the items that was an extra 50% off, but I had to get it!

I paid $165 at the outlet and it was worth every penny.

Amazing Dress!

Krazy Cocktail Party Evening Dress

Krazy Cocktail Party Evening Dress

I know that it has gotten a lot of flack for being `overrated', but seriously, this movie is ridiculously hilarious. I avoided it, thinking that it was just going to be an overuse of gross out humor, but it really isn't. Sure, it is offensive, but it is done in a VERY humorous way that makes this one never-ending laugh riot. It had NO BUSINESS winning all those comedy awards over the far more refreshing `(500) Days of Summer', but that is no reason to pan this film as unworthy of our attention. The jokes are all different and all hit with reckless abandon. The performances are fleshed out beautifully, and all of the actors really have great interaction with one another, which creates a natural chemistry even in the midst of highly unnatural circumstances. Bradley Cooper is dapper and charming, Ed Helms is hilariously unnerved and Zach Galifianakis is a comedic goldmine here. His performance is one of the best comedic performances of the decade. He really understands how NOT to overdue it while making sure that he is completely over the line. I never stopped laughing. The plot itself may have its fair share of holes and it may not all make sense (it's a slapstick buddy comedy, so it really isn't supposed to) but that doesn't matter because the screenplay is so rich with comedic engagement that you forget all about the fact that its one of the most improbably comedies in recent years. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is not a phrase that carries a lot of weight, but this film makes VERY good use of that ageless moniker. I totally recommend this movie. If you are looking forward to just laying back and soaking in the laughter, this one delivers in spades...and then some!
